Well done to all the recent participants of the UPE 8 Week Challenge. I want to say thank you for taking on the challenge, I got a huge buzz when going through your results. Thank you for your commitment and consistency to the program, to achieve the results most of you did in only 56 days was incredible. Whether you entered the challenge because you were already trying hard to achieve results with your diet and training but just weren’t getting there, or you were just starting out on your quest for a healthier, leaner physique I hope the UPE system has given you all the tools you need to be lean, healthy and strong for life.

Drew Patten – Male Winner February 2012 Ultimate Physique Enhancement 8 Week Challenge 

WOW! What else can you say about Drews results in only 56days? Now obviously Drew was no slouch before the UPE 8 Wk Challenge as you can see by his before shot.

To give you a little background on Drew he hasn’t always been ‘lucky’ to be lean and healthy, he is the owner of a very successful restaurant and use to drink and eat like many do in the hospitality industry and did not have a regular exercise regime. Drew is a prime example that anyone can make ‘real’ changes when the switch is flicked. Since flicking the switch Drew has become an animal with his training and nutrition. He was very consistent with this before commencing training here at Function Well, however, the UPE program and training  just took Drew to the next level, with his nutrition in particular. Training hard has never been an issue for Drew. He thrives on pushing himself and testing the boundaries on what can be achieved.

Drew is a great example that anyone can change their lifestyle and get significant results, if it is a priority to them.

Drew enjoyed the social life that comes with his industry but made a decision one day that it all changes starting NOW, not tomorrow not next week NOW and hasn’t looked back since. If Drew can do it you can too. He is surrounded by amazing energy rich food and alcohol every day but has the discipline to eat clean because his training and health is a priority to him. Now don’t get me wrong Drew isn’t 100% all the time, he has his ‘cheat’ day which is what I recommend as part of a long term plan.

The majority of the participants were on the “Metabolic Switch Plan’, Drew used my ‘UPE Carb Cycling To Put On Muscle Mass And Stay Lean Plan’ over the 8 weeks. Fair to say with the results the guys and one female participant got on the carb cycling plan is it works. What Drew achieved over the 8 weeks is not bloody easy, when you are already training hard and eating well with a low body fat percentage it is very challenging to get even leaner, especially when trying to put muscle on at the same time.

To put 4.5kg of muscle on and drop 1% body fat is a great achievement

Now at only 7.2%, well done Drew.

Kim Williams – Female Winner February 2012 Ultimate Physique Enhancement 8 Week Challenge 

Kim and her husband Pat were referred to me in to help them drop body fat. They were frustrated with how much effort they were putting into their training and diet for little rewards. They were consistent with their training and eating.  Kim & Pat were following a nutrition plan which they thought was best for fat loss, which is the same problem the majority of the population is lead to believe – Unfortunately there is so much confusion out there with what is the best way to eat for health and optimal body composition due to being constantly misled, misinformed, and downright manipulated by the media, medical organizations, and “health authorities” a like. It’s hard to know what you should be eating for an optimal body composition and health.

Helping people like Kim and Pat who are what I call, ‘spinning their wheels with their results’, is a huge buzz for me.

When I first met with Kim to go over the UPE 8wk plan, I could see she was very frustrated, I really wanted to help her. I knew within five minutes of our consult Kim would get fantastic results over the 56 days. The right mindset was there we just needed to make sure all the pieces of the fat loss puzzle were in the right places. By addressing the hormones that promote more muscle and less fat through correct nutrition, training and supplement protocols, I knew the results would come and they did.

Well done Kim for not giving up as many people do, when it can all seem “too hard”, with things going through your head like ” no matter what I do I’ll never drop fat”. Well done for having a determined attitude.

After just recently retiring from being a professional triathlete, Adam wanted to try something different. He had been training for up to 20 hours per week, with aerobic conditioning, for the last 6 years at the elite level. Adam always had a little bit of body fat on his mid-section which wouldn’t shift no matter how many times or how hard he trained. Adam is a great example of one of the UPE training principals which is; there is no bout of cardio that will burn more fat than your resting metabolic rate (RMR). So when designing a program for physique enhancement, weight training is number 1 because it has the greatest effect on RMR. Training for only 3 hours and 30 minutes per week (4 weights sessions, 1 HIIT and 1 metabolic session) in only 56 days, as opposed to 20 hours per week of aerobic training only, Adam achieved amazing results!
