I’ve trained Maxine for 9 or so years now which in itself is a great achievement – to be consistent with her training for such a long time. Due to reducing my coaching sessions over the last few years one of the other performance coaches Nathan Barrett now trains Maxine on the other days when her and her husband, Dave, are not with me.

Amy started her 1 on 1 coaching sessions back in August 2010 with my wife, Tash. Amy was very nervous about coming to the gym, it was a daunting prospect as it is for many. But as the old saying goes, “taking the first step is always the hardest”. Read more

When Nick first came to Function Well he had limited training experience but possessed a willingness to learn and a drive to achieve his goal of losing body fat.I came up with a program to get his joints used to lifting weights and employed some structural balance exercises to help his posture because of the long hours he spends in front of the computer. In a short period of time Lana has come a long way. When Lana first started her coaching sessions she was suffering joint pain due to arthritis and struggled with a lot of the functional movement patterns. Due to Lana’s exceptional attitude, drive and willingness towards her training, Lana is now much stronger and fitter with less pain. Lana is a great example if you are dedicated and consistent with your training the rewards will come. Read more

     Client of the Month January

    By Dan Tewson

Always one of the hardest trainers you’ll see at Function Well, Benny Howe has trained the house down since he first set foot in here back in June. Originally Benny came to me to help him with a shoulder issue that had been giving him grief for quite a while. Unfortunately fixing the issue required a lot of tedious rehab with lots of boring exercises and stretching but being the type of guy Benny is, he didn’t shy away from it at all. Everything that I asked Benny to do he did to a tee and before we knew it the shoulder was almost 100%. Read more

Adherence is key to getting results and keeping them. It all comes down to doing what you say you are going to do, Lynda does that- and them some! I have been training Lynda for over a year now, and I can tell what day it is just by seeing what time she turns up to gym to do a session or class, she is just that consistent! In the gym, Lynda holds her own with the best of the best, rising to any challenge that I set in our sessions, or we as a team set for the gym and classes. I always look forward to our sessions, and to what she will do next that will surprise me strength wise. Congratulations Lynda, you thoroughly deserve to be recognised as out client of the month

    Myles and Stephen

Myles & Stephen are the ‘perfect’ clients to train, they eat well and rip into their training every session. While Stephen might mutter a few words of abuse under his breath now and then there is never any whinging from Myles & Stephen and I train them bloody hard!. The boys are definitely inspirational around the gym, I know the effort they put into their training definitely is infectious and lifts everyone around them especially in the group sessions.

    Shirley Stephens

Shirley is a true inspiration and optimizes the benefits of looking after yourself and living a healthy life. Shirley is 73 years of age and is literally fitter and definitely stronger than a lot of ladies and men that are half her age. I and all the staff here at function well truly do look at Shirley as an inspiration. Shirley never ever uses her age as an excuse, it is not a limiting factor for her, she pushes herself mentally and physically at every single session with a goal to constantly improve which I think is awesome. Shirley always brings her best and refuses to have nothing but a positive attitude towards her training – Shirley is a great example of what you can achieve if you have the right mindset.

    Christie Kahukiwa

I did not have to think twice about who I was going to put forward to be Client of the Month. Selecting one client out of the many that train at Function Well is difficult, however when looking at various attributes such as hard work, dedication, and overall positive gym attitude it was easy to nominate Christie Kahukiwa.
